Safe, Effective Options for Whiter Teeth

For some people, the pursuit of whiter teeth is just as frustrating as searching for the fountain of youth. Maybe that’s because studies have shown that discolored teeth can add years to your appearance - and whiter teeth may even shed a few years off. In fact, a recent report by Hexa Research estimates that the global teeth-whitening market will reach an astonishing $7.4 billion by the year 2024!

With all that money being spent on whitening our teeth, what actually works? After all, if those strips really made our teeth as white as we wanted, we probably wouldn’t need to keep buying them. So, what’s a safe and effective way to get whiter teeth without having to continuously spend money on products that don’t work?

In-Office Whitening

Dr. Simpson is proud to offer her patients the Zoom! Whitening system, an in-office procedure that can lighten the teeth by up to four shades in as little as 30 minutes. Zoom uses a peroxide-based activator gel that is heated with a whitening lamp to speed up the whitening process.

Zoom may cost a bit more than over-the-counter whitening products, but the initial investment will pay for itself in both results and duration. Why? Because Zoom whitening is permanent. That means as long as you keep your teeth clean and stain free, the results of your Zoom procedure will last.

Take-Home Trays

Another option for whitening your teeth fast is take-home whitening trays. These trays are custom fit to your mouth and applied at home with an activator gel provided by Dr. Simpson. You will be given instructions regarding how to apply the gel safely and for how long. These trays are far superior to over-the-counter white strips for two main reasons. First, the trays are custom fit to your mouth, so you don’t need to struggle to get the right fit. Second, the active ingredients are much stronger than those you’d find over the counter, which means you’ll get better results, and faster.

Veneers

For a more permanent solution, veneers are a much bigger investment than products like trays and Zoom, but the results last longer, and veneers can be used to correct more than just the color of your teeth. Veneers are thin strips of porcelain that are permanently adhered to the front of the teeth. In addition to correcting color, they also can correct the shape and size of teeth, too. Veneers are an excellent solution to correcting minor chips, discoloration and uneven shaping of the teeth. Because they are not composed of tooth enamel, they are less porous and less likely to stain. And if well cared for, veneers can last 20 years or beyond without needing to be replaced.
